Winter months bring a shortened day length and dry, drafty indoor conditions. These changes can wreak havoc on your bird's skin and feathers as well as on overall health and behavior.
Inadequate lighting can also have a negative effect on your bird. It can disrupt various metabolic and behavioral processes:
Inadequate lighting can also cause a potential nutrient deficiency, especially Vitamin D. Use a clean spray bottle with warm water and mist or shower your bird regularly to hydrate his skin, but make sure the room is warm and draft-free. Avoid spraying water in the face of your bird. Expose your bird to a UVB light source, such as full-spectrum lighting, to compensate for the shortened day length, and to reduce potential for Vitamin D deficiency. Use a Skin/Feather conditioner that contain real preen gland oil. These can be found at most pet stores. Cover a portion of the cage or provide a bird bunker to shield any drafts if you cannot avoid them in your home. Many parrots come from humid, tropical areas of the world. For the health of our birds, we must do what we can to simulate their natural environments in our homes- especially in the winter period.

Testimonials
We were taken with the expertise and enthusiasm of the breeders. All of our questions were only a phone call away and we talked many times just to check on our baby bird before he was ready to go. Our Quaker is absolutely beautiful and friendly and is already starting to talk." - The Murrays
